Tell us a general statement about the crew.
I got together with amy roughly around the end of august.
We currently have about 12 members. We've been getting a new member just
about every month so the count may not always be accurate. The names are
as follows:
(for personal reasons there are no last names besides ours)
Amy Bergesen, Wendy Ju, Cindy, Julie, Brandie, Caroline, Dorothy,
loreta, Jessica P., Jessica T., Heather, and Angie that i know of at
the moment. Membership changes all the time bc some girls contact Amy
and some contact me.
The founders are me (wendy) and amy. our goal is to have something that
every woman/girl can be involved in without feeling put down or inferior. we
want to do something for the south/midwest area. we do not discriminate against
race, age, or what they race. we want to dominate the racing scene in our area
in the name of all women drivers. most of all we want to KICK ASS!!! :) this
is off the record, but we are hoping to hold our OWN race scheduled for spring of
2000.
We are based in Houston although that doesnt mean only houstonians can
join. we attend events held locally at the HOUSTON RACEWAY (in Baytown) and
sometimes in Dallas. the last event held in dallas was not run too well so we may not
go back there again unless they have something better to offer us. but we
will be at all houston events. Our next race is the FEB28 ID DRAG WARS in
Houston/Baytown.
Q1. Define the "import scene".
My definition of import scene is everything having to do with import cars whether it be modifying for racing or show. The import scene consits of all the people who drag race, street race, or just creep around town in their rides. For asians its a part of our culture. There is no way to grow up and not know about import cars. its kinda like growing up without STREETFIGHTER or something. It's ingrained into our blood. Those who are nonasian get into it for their own reasons, whether it was because their friends got them into imports, or they read about them, or they just KNOW what's the S*#T.
Q2. What's your prediction for the import scene for 1999?
I think the scene is jsut gonna get bigger and better every year. more and more people get into it every year. The little kids that hang around the older ones get their own car sand start doing their own things. BUT one thing i do wanna say to cali is this WATCH OUT FOR US! MORE 10-SEC. CARS ARE GONNA COME YOUR WAY. We already have one car from hosuton that does 10 secs. and with more work others are not far behind. More girls are gonna be coming out into the scene esp. from our part of the country. The year of the woman is coming soon!
Q3. How do you feel about Import Car Shows?
I think car show are great but................. there are just not enough of them in our area. everyones seems to forget that the scene does not just exist in california only. granted there is a bigger community on the west coast but it doesn't mean that WE are NOT HERE!!! help us out, california!! there were an estimated 500 racers that showed up for the last ID DRAG WARS that were held in oct. 1998. that doesn't include all the spectators. the scene out ehre has really been growing and i think if someone is willing to invest in a show around here many people will want to enter. Take my team for instance. its a little more than a team to us. its an orgnization. we want to sponsor our own races and car shows.
Q4. Do you think Jegs & Summit are driving out smaller shops?
I don't think they are driving out smaller shops simply because people are loyal, they don't always want to wait, and mostly because a lot of people are just too dumb or too lazy to go look around for cheaper prices. its kinda like convenience vs. work.
Any parting words?
More Texas events! Help support our team!!!
